THE CHALLENGE
A multi-billion dollar technology and services provider was seeking a specialty repair partner to support their total maintenance program for the U.S.’s leading neighborhood grocery chain. Key challenges included addressing the large volume and variety of “front end” point-of-sale technology devices, both in terms of repair timeliness and quality – and innovating to find ways to maximize the value of the retailer’s existing technology investment.
THE SOLUTION
When our partner presented this engagement to Lexicon, we asked our engineering and supply chain teams to evaluate the various component devices: a point-of-sale system including display/keypad, host processor, flat bed scanner, and receipt printer/check endorser (from multiple manufacturers). Failure points were identified and the teams provided input into the creation of specialized repair process plans to consistently meet the strict quality/reliability and substantial volume and turnaround time requirements for the client.
Further, aware of this client’s desire to maximize the lifetime value of the equipment and cognizant of the customer-facing nature of the technology deployment, Lexicon innovated to create a cost-effective “refurbishment” process to front-end the repair cycle. Our “prep” process included cleaning, sanding, and painting device covers to give a “like-new” look and feel; fresh labeling completed the aesthetic transformation (and provided install information to field technicians) – all to the delight of the client.
